A fascinating look at the end of the “Kingdom of God.” The book describes the cultural, military and economic reasons for the Eastern empire’s fall and explains that, even while Western Europe descended into the Dark Ages, the Light of Civilization wasn’t really snuffed out. It just went east.

This book really kindled my interest for the history of eastern Europe, Islam, and the City on the Bosporus.
