Leonardo Da Vinci was one of the foremost minds of his era. He had a keen understanding of engineering, mathematics, art, nature, and human anatomy. Through careful dissection and study, he created a library of knowledge that might have revolutionized the way people thought about the human body. But although he spent over 25 years investigating the workings of the human body, the drawings and insights he gleaned were never published in his lifetime.

Indeed, only his closest friends had any idea of the extent of his medical knowledge. He never taugt or published any of his findings and rarely discoursed about it.

This doesn’t stop the images from being amongst the most beautiful medical drawings of all time, though. In this gallery, you can find some of those sketches.
